Face's hit for six and then some!
Date : March 21st 2009
Fixture : League Game - Home
Result : Harold Wood 7 - 1 Faces FC
Wood secured their biggest win of the season on Saturday with what sounds like an emphatic 7-2 win away at bottom club Faces.
The game got off too a slow start with Faces probably edging the first 10 minutes. One of Wood’s first attacks of the game resulted in the opening goal, Gallen broke down the right and fizzed in a low cross which Hughes turned home. The second goal come shortly after, this time Hughes was the provider. His shot was saved the ball came back out and Ziepe dispatched into the bottom corner of the net.
Faces heads seemed too drop and the stop start game made it hard for Wood too get into their usual passing rhythm. They did though score another goal before the half was out, a corner from Ziepe was powerfully headed home by Fyffe. Wood went in 3 up and the game was already won, well that’s what Wood thought anyway!
Once again Wood plodded out of the blokes and this time Faces took their chances, firstly a corner was not dealt with and the Faces striker headed home. Two minutes later they got their second, a well dispatched shot from the edge of the area found its way into the corner. Luckily for Wood that was as bad as it got. The much needed two goal cushion returned when a deep cross from Fyffe was headed back across goal by Stone leaving Gallen with a simple tap in.
Goals five and six then came in quick succession again a good run down the right by Hughes saw him skin his defender and megs the keeper. Goal six was a debut goal for Sam Wilson. Ayres played him in and he calmly meg’s the keeper as well. Goal seven was headed home by Stone too round off the scoring. It could have been more with Gallen, Ziepe, Sawyer and Todd all guilty of missing chances.
Once again another three points as the Wood machine marches on. A less the convincing display though and a better team would have punished Wood on the day.
Team Lineup : Bonner; Todd, Wettner, Klien, Fyffe; Stone, Ayres, Ziepe, Hughes (Sawyer); Rafis Gallen (Wilson),
