Hatch undone by hard working Harold!
Date : March 10th 2009
Fixture : League Game - Away
Result : Harold Wood 2 - 1 Kelvedon Hatch
Harold Wood entertained table toppers Kelvedon Hatch at Hornchurch’s Bridge Avenue ground on a chilly Tuesday evening. Wood had beaten Hatch in there previous 4 matches against them.
In a much anticipated clash Wood started the game brightly and couldn’t of get off too a better start when a free kick from 25 yards out was beautifully curled round the wall and past the keeper by Tom Ziepe. An excellent start for Wood and a long awaited goal from Ziepe.
The game seemed too settle after this with the extra man in the Wood midfield making all the difference. Wood began too get on top but without really creating too many chances. The excellent pitch allowed both teams too try and play football. The first half came too an end with Wood much the better team and Hatch probably glad too hear the whistle.
The 15 minute break seemed too do the trick for Hatch with them starting much the better in the second half. The Wood defence and keeper coped well with all the pressure with Bonner standing firm in the goal.
Gallen again up top on his own saw his best effort of the game go just wide, with Wood playing more and more on the counter.
Hatch’s biggest threat came from set pieces and eventually one made its way past Bonner. A free kick whipped in from the right was partially cleared. The ball made its way back in the box and the Hatch centre half poked home.
Wood heads didn’t drop and the introduction of the three subs seemed too give a little more pace and impetus too the game. The decisive winning moment saw Hughes burst into the box and his right footed shot somehow found its way over the line and into the goal! This sparked joyous celebrations on and off the pitch.
Hatch looked in vain for an equaliser but nothing came and the excellent run against them continues. Another great win for the Wood with a weekends winter training in Tenerife too look forward too.
