Harold Wood To Strong for Southminster

A poor goalless first half saw Tony Oldfield squander the best chance when he fired over from 8 yards after good work by Brian Corke. Southminster were more resiliant after their 7-1 hiding three weeks ago but rarely threatened the solid Ade Oyenuga in the Wood goal. The second half continued in the same vein with a below par Wood struggling to carve out a chance for 20 minutes. Brian Rafis pacemaker was having trouble, so was rightfully replaced by new signing Kieron Coughlan at right back. Then the deadlock was broken by evergreen Del Francois heading home from a yard from Coters cross. It looked like this would be it when Woods defence went to sleep allowing a soft equaliser shortly after.

With the game petering out into a draw the returning Paul Gilmour backheeled a loose ball in the area which just crept over the keeper with two minutes left. Wood played poorly but gained a win on what can only be described as an off day. Craig Sampson again put in a solid performance and new boy coughlan looks like he will settle in well.
