Wood Give The Rouge Another Drubbing
Date : Feb 21st 2009
Fixture : League Game - Home
Result : Harold Wood 5 - 1 Springfield Rouge
Wood celebrated the opening of the new clubhouse with an emphatic victory against a side they had already beaten twice this season. A really poor start by both sides was almost embarassing to watch. Wood withstood an early barage mainly thanks to the superb goalkeeping of Richard Bonner. Mark Coster smashed home on 20 mins but this was soon cancelled out thanks to some sleepy defending. "young " Del Francois restored the lead by half time but all present really wondered how.
A roasting and the threat of the sulking Rod Edwards at the break seemed to do the trick as the same duo scored in quick successsion to see Wood really take control. Del then scored a long range effort to complete his hat trick from at least seven inches after some good work by the tireless James Green. There was even time for the opposing goalkeeper to be sent off for a foul on Del. The resulting penalty was taken by captain Preece and only reached the goal as it was downhill, the deputising centre half just managing to throw his cap on it. Special mention to MOM Craig Sampson and Mr consistent Ribbits as well as debutant Jordan Marsh who did well in taking over from the "rested" Rod Edwards.
Team Lineup : Bonner; Rafis, Ribbits, Preece, Sampson; Coster, Hammond Jordan, Green, Rafis, Francois; Cork
Subs:Edwards, Oldfield, Walsh
