Harold Wood Take On Ongar
Date : April 11th 2009
Fixture : League Game - Home
Result : Harold Wood 4 - 2 Ongar Town
Harold Wood entertained struggling Ongar in another must win game if they were too keep their title hopes alive. Wood reverted too a 3-5-2 formation which had seen them destroy Ongar in the reverse fixture earlier in the season.
Wood started the better and were rewarded when a flowing team move found Tom Ziepe clear in the box and his precise finish found its way past the keeper too make it one nil
The second goal of the afternoon came from Wing Back Church, who unmarked at the back post nodded home from a Portway cross. Wood seemed too be in cruise.
The main talking point of the half came with 5 minutes too go when a Wood defender was adjudged too have pushed the prolific Ben Polley in the area. The ref pointed too the spot too a chorus of moans from the home team and fans. Polley stepped up and calmly slotted home to make the score at the break 2-1.
Wood were slow out of the blocks in the second half and Ongar were rewarded for their attacking play, a neat move saw Sibely smash the ball into the bottom corner, with Bonner standing no chance.
The game became a bit cagey with Wood knowing nothing but a win would do. Their third goal of the afternoon came when a throw in from the right found its way too Portway in the box who swivelled and struck the ball past the away team keeper. Ongar protested as one of their defenders lay on the floor rolling around in pain, but with no Wood player near him he must have been shot from the Wood sniper in the trees!
This seemed too relax the home side and it also allowed Hammond too introduce his two subs. One of those subs Nicky Sawyer was able too grab his first goal in Wood first team colours with an excellent driving run and powerful shot into the bottom corner.
Team Lineup : Bonner; Fyffe, Wettner, Klien; Todd, Ziepe, Ayres, Hughes, Church (Sawyer); Wilson (Smy), Portway
