Hammonds Hand Titles to the Wood

Celebrations were all around in Harold Wood when this week the award ceremony for both Senior and Reserve team were crowned League Champions of their respective top divisions, obviously we are grateful from the players, right through to all staff who have been involved in the club but a special mention to the Hammond Brothers who both managed their sides to Title Glory and for the fact that they were so terrible at football themselves its an amazement they can know so much about the game!
Harold Wood Seniors won the league with still a game left to play after beating Benfleet convincingly 4-0, while the reserves had to take it all the way to the last game of the season to win strongly against Mountnessing. Both teams will be celebrating heavily tonight with the new Clubhouse hosting it's first end of season do and now finds itself probably needing more room for all the trophies picked up by the club.

We would just like to thank everyone through out all the Harold Wood Squads and all the staff who help to make this club as strong and proud as it is.

Thank You and See you in two weeks time when pre-season training starts (YER RIGHT!)

Harold Wood Reserves vs White Ensign Match Report

Harold Wood Reserves vs Mountnessing Boca Match Report

Harold Wood Crowned Champions of the Senior League!

A weekend that saw Harold Wood's 3rd team in another cup final and the Reserves taking themselves one game from being crowned champions of their own league. The senior side lead by example and have everything but sealed the title of the Essex Olympian League Premier Division. With two games left to play and already equal points with Frenford, only dropping 15 goals in the last two games will see them lose the title, Lets hope Toddy isn't playing!

It was also a great night for Gary Hammond's Reserve side as they put themselves within one game of making the title there's. One point will see Wood take Shell but all 3 points is needed to make sure M & B FC cannot make a late charge with there two games in hand and what a game to finish off with than Mountnessing Boca Reserves.

Both clubs have a great rivalry and I'm sure Mountnessing will make sure Harold Wood have to battle all the way to the end of their season if they want to be crownd champs of the top reserve division.

Also Harold Wood 3rd Team had to play another cup final the evening after beating Scotia Billericay in their final league game 1-0.

All Reports will follow shortly and look forward to the Presentation Night Next Weekend!!

Fund Raising Event

Harold Wood 3rd team player Mark Hammond is running the London Marathon the 26th April. In doing so, he is raising money for the following charity: "The Evelina Children's Hospital, at Guy's and St Thomas' NHS Foundation Trust,

This charity provides everything from routine care to life saving treatment for over 100,000 children every year. It is a hospital that doesnt feel like a hospital and includes intensive care, neurology, and specialist heart and kidney units. Patients come from London, Southern England and much further a field for life threatening illnesses. While the children receive world-class care and treatment, NHS funding can not meet all the hospitals needs. This is where the Evelina Children's Hospital Appeal steps in by raising money to buy the very best equipment and facilities."

If you want to help in Mark's fund raising, please follow this link www.justgiving.com/markhammond1 and donate some money to a great cause.

All donations are greatly appreciated.

3 is the Magic Number !

The V Family

Sat 28th Feb saw a momentus occasion over Wood, as proud father and ex-Wood hard man Gary Ventura, turned out for the 4's with his 2 sons Louis and Oliver.

All 3 played their part in a 2-0 victory for the 4th team as Gary fulfilled a lifelong ambition to play in a match with his sons. The fact that the combined age of the Wood 4th team outfield players equalled Gary's age, was not evident as he rolled back the years to put in a performance reminicent of the old days. There was a slight family dispute prior to kick off in the changing rooms, as the 3 Ventura's got their Sloggi's muddled up, but all was resolved prior to kick off. The only blemish on the event was when one of the V's managed to get themselves acquainted with the referee's notebook for a trademark tackle, but unfortunately there was no chance of Gary giving one of his sons name in the ref's notebook, as a yellow card was produced.

A satisfactory result for Wood's 4th Youngsters, especially from the 3 V's, including a majestic comeback from the old boy (even if he did only pass to his 2 boys). After the match V gave the young teenagers some Tanning tips, before the 3 V's headed home for their favourite family dinner of Chicken Dippers, Potato Waffles and AlphaBetty Spagetti !

Its Back !!

Not only is the new clubhouse re opening, but our award winning* Club Web Site is back up and running after a Daren Brown style, short spell on the sidelines......and what a comeback it is gonna be...(the best since Gary Hammonds cameo appearance for the 2s at the end of last season) !!

Previous site owner and editor Andy Papps has relinquished the responsibility, after a work visit to India saw him kidnapped and held in the country indefinitely (hes got a luvvly colour out there though!) Nonetheless, our new website has had a major refurb by new Editor in Chief and computer whizz kid extraordinaire, Tony Oldfield. After a few weeks on his Spectrum 128k Computer the web site has been redesigned and will now be regularly updated with news and views from the clubs 4 senior teams and current vets team.

Fixtures, Results, Tables and Reports will be loaded shortly, along with regular contributions from our club comedy statician and roving reporters.

If you would like to include any team details, club updates, match reports, pictures, stories or any general feedback or suggestions please e-mail -tony.oldfield@misys.com Please note, all messages with regard to unpopularity of Steve Hayes will be disregarded for the time being

Enjoy...Up The Wood !!!

An Essex football club devastated by an arson attack three years ago finally has some good news.

In October 2005 a blaze gutted Harold Wood FCs clubhouse, but more than three years on the team are preparing to open a new facility.

The Havering-based club were able to rebuild their sports club following a 400,000 grant from the Football Foundation, the UKs biggest sports charity.

Harold Wood FC also received 150,000 from the England and Wales Cricket Board.

The new building, which opens this month, features 10 changing rooms, including two for match officials.

The clubhouse will serve the Harold Woods Sports Association (HWSA), which comprises of Harold Wood Athletic FC, Harold Wood Cougars JFC and Harold Wood Cricket Club.

Chairman of the HWSA Howard Wood sorry, Geoff Smith said: All of our member clubs have suffered over the last three years by not having suitable facilities, but we are now in the position of being able to provide a modern and safe changing facility.

This will enable us to increase the number of junior teams that play football and cricket within the park.
